More Škoda Models To Be Produced In China
Škoda Auto has extended its licence-based production of complete vehicles in China. The master licence agreement now includes additional contracts with the Chinese partners – in addition to the already agreed local production of the Škoda Octavia, the production portfolio will also include the Fabia and Superb model ranges.
The local production of the Škoda Octavia is set to start in 2007, the Fabia and Superb model ranges will follow later to reinforce the expansion of the brand Škoda to the Chinese market.
All of the three Škoda models are going to be produced at the Shanghai Volkswagen plant. A Škoda Auto team is already working in Shanghai to prepare the launch of the project. Škoda vehicle sales and maintenance services will be provided through a selected network of exclusive Škoda dealers in China. The vehicles manufactured in China are intended for the local market.
Škoda Auto Board Chairman Detlef Wittig said: “The licence contracts will set a new level of presence of the Škoda brand in China. It shows we see China as one of the strategic markets for the brand’s future growth. The cooperation with our Chinese partners will provide the Škoda brand with maximum support for its succesfull future in China.”
The licence production in China is part of Škoda Auto's business growth strategies that also include other assembly and manufacturing projects in the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Bosnia and India.
